My first anniversary of moving to New York City is just a few weeks away. I arrived here after a series of mistakes and miscalculations, and ended up with far more opportunities than I deserved.

This album has changed a lot since I first started writing new material last summer: none of the songs intended for the original release made it to the final album; it was sort of going to be a concept album about a 19th-century settler banished from their own settlement; fuck, even the name of the release and the art on the cover have changed multiple times.

Regardless...

Today I present nine new songs, all written in the past 11 months, all about the various ups and downs I've had this year. The road here was weird and scary, but I'm glad to be here with you.

Remember, y'all, that every plan we have can die a sudden death, and sometimes that's all we can hope for.

Track Name: It's All a Puzzle
You are a poet, carefully choosing your words
Enraptured in the art of selecting everything that rhymes
Tonight the light in your bedroom
Will not go out before midnight

I hope you sit there in that chair
Instead of going to bed with the wrong idea

You are a sadist
Master of a metaphorical torture machine
You an artist
Of words that don’t belong to you.

I hope you sit there in that chair
Instead of going to bed with the wrong idea.

You have to leave
Track Name: 1,886 Miles
If I could I'd draw you pictures of the places that I've seen
Or capture it in photographs for glossy magazines
From Appalachian forests down to Pacific coasts
I'd impart every last detail to keep you well engrossed into the night

Stay up for no reason, stay up for no reason.

I broke the signal flow when I stomped too hard
And opened up the door to break my own heart
But what's it matter anyway? I'm just alone for now
Pretty soon the sun will rise and the day will go anyhow

For no reason, the day will go on. Go on for no reason.

Do you feel inadequate when the spotlight flickers out on your line?
They call for your career in the negative reviews on their blogs.
You think, maybe this is it, maybe the time has come to hang it up.

For no reason. Life will go on. Go on for reason.

Sing ba da da da dada da da
ba da dada da
Sing ba da da da dada da da
ba da dada da
Hey, bullshit.
Hey, hey, hey bullshit.
Track Name: Stop Yelling!
Here we go once again
I want everyone to know that I'm excited
But there goes my voice
Before I got started
Coughing up blood again!!!
God damn, I need a throat lozenge

Rust and decay
Burning the solder
Scum on parade
It's time to stop!!!!!!~

This road runs into the ground
Stop yelling, now
You're gonna die!
You'll ask when you're old:
"Was it worth it for the people you barely know?"

BUT
I am more than just some damn success story
I do more than justify a college degree
And we're coming up fast again
No patience for half-baked notions

Nails on the board
Dry erase targets
Goals we won't meet
Mediocrity!!!

The road runs into the ground
Stop yelling now
You're gonna die!!!
You'll ask when you're old:
"Was it worth it for the people you barely know?"
Track Name: Bronson III: What a Beautiful Country
Sullivan Circle is not a real place
You won't find it on the map
Of these United fuckin' States
Bronson, you're gonna have to wait for now
Bronson, you're gonna have to wait for now
This land had so much potential
As a haven for the misled people
But, Sullivan Circle is not a real place

Bronson, you're gonna have to wait
Bronson, you're gonna have to wait

You appraised every morsel I cooked up
Assured me forever, "it's just bad luck."
You said, "BABY, YOU'RE NOT GONNA DIE HERE!!!"(not alone.)
Baby, you're not gonna die here.
Your heart was an open cave
In which I strove to create little morsels for you to appraise

But Bronson, you're gonna have to wait
Bronson, you're gonna have to wait

Sullivan Circle is not a real place.
Track Name: Melanie/Sassy
I know you hate yourself, but that’s no reason to hate me
I never see you change, but change is all the rage
You’re stitching up the fabric to hide the scrapes on your knees
And casting out the bottle to float among the waves
And you never thought we’d know

You better crawl forward on your paws
Sink them into the gravel, prepare yourself for battle
With wilted broadswords, chain mail and all
Despite the years of claiming you’re never gonna settle
Look at how you settle

I know you hate yourself, but that’s no reason to hate me
I know they didn’t like it when you swore on the radio
You’re swallowing the bottle to strengthen your weak knees
And singing to the airwaves the dirtiest words you know
You swear a lot, you know
Track Name: So Much to Do
I promise I won’t become complacent
Over small progress in the mainstream media

Because there’s so much to do it makes me vomit
There’s so much to do it makes me sick

I promise not to apologize for this
The same three chords over and over again

Because there’s so much to do it makes me vomit
There’s so much to do it makes me sick

If the news came out right now
Would the world look the same to you?

There’s so much to do it makes me vomit
There’s so much to do it makes me sick
Track Name: Call #12
I've been getting phone calls
From an unknown number
Somewhere in Washington D.C.

They're wondering if I'm interested in
A red hot piece of real estate

I'm not in the least...

They say,
"Sir, it's a limited time offer,
But don't jump the gun.

Why don't we take a moment
To discuss your payment options?"

I say, "Do not call back, please."

I always panic, panic, panic, panic, panic
And accept my first offer

But I won't panic, panic, panic, panic, panic
This time
Track Name: Junkyard
You have me looking over my shoulder
You have me second-guessing every fucking thing
If not a matter of simply moving forward
This hesitation is far from productive

I've gotten stale
So send me to the junkyard
Put me in the garbage disposal
Cut my life into a tiny package
And send me to the yard to rest in peace

I see you in your swimming pool
Bearing the fruits of your adolescent labor
No worries or cares in the god damn universe
Haven't thought twice since you put me away

I've gotten stale
So send me to the junkyard
Put me in the garbage disposal
Cut my life into a tiny package
And send it to the yard to rest in peace

Just send me to the yard to rest in peace
I'll rest in peace
Track Name: The Wilderness Around Me
I put a clamp on my main artery
Choking out the last you'll see of me

It's fading fast, any trace of normalcy
That we had in our strange lives
Oh, not too fast your earnest view of the trees
Is coming down to the whir of a band saw

As I sleep tonight in the Colorado Rockies
The time alone becomes strange therapy
Will you always remember
Not who I was but what I wanted to be?

I put a clamp on my main artery
Choking out the last you'll see of me
